The Library’s Affinity Teams, particularly Nuestras Raíces and Many Nations, provide outreach to local Latinx and Indigenous communities, participate in many kinds of outreach events and programming in collaboration with other organizations. Recent examples of these events include: – Programs such as Día de la Niñez with Galería Mitotera, Day of the Child in partnership with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, El Grito with the El Pueblo Senior Center and the Mexican Consulate, Pueblos del Maíz outreach in partnership with Tucson City of Gastronomy and Resilience Kitchen, Asian performers sponsored by the Biblio Lotus team, and seed distribution at Mission Garden events. Back-to-school events are done in collaboration with Pima County and Tribal Nations where school supplies, swag, new and used books are distributed during interactions with attendees. During STEM nights, staff provides STEM-centered activities, 3D printing, and other interactive activities for children of all ages.
At all of these events and programs, staff are sharing information about the Library and encouraging people to sign up for Library cards.
